RECYCLING NEWS
In
an effort to continually improve our recycling program, more
materials are being accepted.
What Types of
Plastics Can Be Recycled?
All #1 - #7
plastics are now accepted.
Usually located on the bottom of the package, this
number is code for the specific type of plastic you're holding. Here are
a couple of examples of the identification numbers and their
corresponding products:
#1 PET (Polyethylene
terephthalate) - Fizzy drink bottles, oven-ready meal trays and water
bottles
#2 HDPE (High-density
polyethylene) - Milk bottles, detergent bottles, yogurt and margarine
tubs, cereal box liners and grocery, trash and retail bags
#3 PVC (Polyvinyl chloride) -
Cling film (plastic food wrap), vegetable oil bottles, loose-leaf
binders and construction products such as plastic pipes
#4 LDPE (Low-density
polyethylene) - Dry cleaning bags, produce bags, trash can liners,
bread bags, frozen food bags and squeezable bottles, such as mustard
and honey
#5 PP (Polypropylene) -
Ketchup bottles, medicine bottles, aerosol caps and drinking
straws
#6 PS (Polystyrene) -
Compact disc jackets, grocery store meat trays, egg cartons, aspirin
bottles, foam packaging peanuts and plastic tableware
#7 Other - Three- and five-gallon
reusable water bottles, certain kinds of food containers and
Tupperware

2011 HOLIDAY TRASH PICK-UP SCHEDULE
The trash
pick-up schedule for the Christmas and New Year holidays will not be
affected this year as these holidays fall on weekends.
The only holidays
that will affect trash pick-up this year are The Fourth of July and
Thanksgiving.
The schedule changes
are as follows:
July 4, 2011-Monday-All
trash days are moved back by one day for this week; if your regular trash pick-up day is Monday, your new
pick-up day is Tuesday. If your regular day was Tuesday, it is
now Wednesday. If your regular day was Wednesday, it is now
Thursday. And if your regular pick-up day was Thursday for this
week, it will be pick up on Friday.
November 24,
2011-Thursday-If your regular pick-up day is Thursday,
your new pick-up day for the week is Friday. No other days
are affected.
Trash will be picked
up on its regularly scheduled day for all other holidays. If
you have any questions, please contact the Cumberland Public Works
Department at 829-2220.

FROM THE RECREATION DEPARTMENT
MAGIC DRAGON PRE-SCHOOL DAY CAMP
This is a play-oriented program designed to meet the
needs of pre-kindergarten 4 and 5 year olds. A variety of
developmentally appropriate activities will be offered in the following
areas: art, music, dramatic play, language arts, science as well
as fine and gross motor activities. Each week the campers
will take a field trip on a school bus, generally on Thursday
mornings. This camp is a wonderful way for your child to get
acclimated to Wilson School! Children should bring a snack each
day-no breakable containers, please! Note: Children must be 4
years old prior to June 1, 2011 (no exceptions).
