TOWN OF
CUMBERLAND MEMORIAL DAY PARADE
· The parade will be on Monday, May 30th
starting at 10 o'clock am.
· The parade route will start at the Mabel I. Wilson (MIW)
School and will travel Tuttle Road, Main Street to Moss Side Cemetery
and then return to the Gyger Gymnasium.
· Parade line up will be at the MIW at 9 o'clock am.
· Active duty and military veterans will march at the front
of the parade. Families, friends,
neighbors and anyone else who knows of a military person is asked to
encourage them to march in our Town's parade. We will also have
golf carts included in the parade for those veterans who may need
assistance with parade participation. We will make any
provisions possible to get them involved in the parade.
· There will be a VIP table and chairs set up at the MIW
from 9 o'clock to parade start time that is dedicated exclusively for
the military personnel. This table will include coffee and
snacks as a way to treat them and thank them for their service to our
country. Anyone wishing to drop off muffins, doughnuts or any
other treats to this VIP area are encouraged
to do so.
· A boy scout flag raising and
wreath placing ceremony will occur at the William Merrill Memorial
monument, a monument that recognizes and remembers those who have
served our country in the Civil War and all other wars and
conflicts. This monument is located at the corner of Main
Street and Tuttle Road.
· Girl scout and boy scout groups are ALL
asked to march in this parade in uniform. We will have
banners to be carried by some of the troops that remember all of our
military conflicts that our country has been involved with.
· Each girl scout is asked, if possible, to bring a few
lilacs (or other flower if lilacs are not in season) to be placed on
the graves of our military heroes that are either in the
Congregational Church Cemetery (corner of Tuttle Road and Main
Street) and/or the Moss Side Cemetery.
· Bands from Greely will participate with patriotic music
throughout the parade route and possibly bagpipes as well.
· Other parade participants, such as children with decorated
patriotic bicycles and local community floats will also be a part of
the parade.
· No political campaigns/participants will be allowed in
any portion of the parade's activities.
· A guest speaker will make a brief speech at Moss Side
Cemetery and then the parade will return to the Gyger
Gymnasium where a photograph will be taken of all parade
participants---with our veterans at the front of the group.
· This is a community spirited event and we encourage all
citizens to watch the parade along Main Street and praise our
military personnel as they march by.
· Any questions regarding the parade may be directed to
Parade Organizer/Fire Chief Daniel Small at 829-5421.
