EXIT 53
UPDATE
Here is an update on the Maine
Turnpike Exit 53 construction project:
The Exit 53 interchange
bridge rehabilitation and interchange improvement project has been
under construction since August. The contractor is ready to begin the
next phase which means the traffic crossing the bridge will be
reduced to one lane controlled by traffic signals. All the ramps will
remain open but there will be some delays as traffic is waiting for
the opposing traffic to cross the bridge. The signals will be
adjusted based upon traffic volumes,
however, the morning commute traffic on the bridge is high in both
directions, so please expect some delays. It has been our experience
that it may take a couple of days for the traffic to adjust to the
new traffic pattern.
The contractor has been
working since August to construct the new piers and backwalls to
support the new wider bridge. This was planned as such to reduce the
impacts to traffic. This next phase will be in effect until
mid-October.
