Thanks to all who supported your local farmers through the winter.  The root cellars are about empty of winter produce,  but the Cumberland Farmers Market Association is already making plans for the Summer market.  If you are interested in becoming a vendor, please contact our Market Manager, Leslie Fitzgerald at market.galME@gmail.com before March 24th, when we meet and vote in new members.

Opening Day for the summer market is Saturday, May 21st and hours are 9 AM - 12 noon. We are moving the market back to the lot at Cumberland Town Hall.  To those who have asked why we cannot return to the high school location on Main Street: while there is ample parking, the renovations eliminated an exit, and it is not safe to have cars driving through the market.

The Town Hall location provides plenty of parking, enough space for 15-20 vendors, and excellent visibility.  At the request of many, we will once again have piglets, chicks, ducklings, goats, alpacas, etc. for your enjoyment, but for our farm animals' safety, customers must leave their dogs at home, in cars, or at least well away from the livestock and poultry.

We look forward to seeing you at the Saturday market, or at one of our other locations during weekday afternoons: Wednesdays in Falmouth, Thursdays in Gray, and Fridays in Freeport.  Special requests or suggestions to improve our market may be directed to Pam Harwood, CFMA president, at pdh@longwoodsalpacas.com or to Leslie Fitzgerald (email above).

Do you snowmobile, cross country ski or snow shoe?  We need your help to keep the Cumberland area snowmobile trails open for all winter outdoors enthusiasts.  We have the Moonlite Sno-Skimmers Snowmobile Club meetings at Toddy Brook in North Yarmouth every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month at 7pm.  Memberships for the 2010/2011 season are $30 for families and $40 for businesses.  If you or your family benefit from using the snowmobile trails in Cumberland, we need your help and your voice.  As you may be aware, a section of the main powerline trail from Route 9 to Smithwood Drive in North Yarmouth was closed by CMP and the MDOC this year.  There is another section of trail closed on the powerline running from Harris Road across Route 9 to Winn Road.  Given these two closures, some 35-40 snowmobilers and other winter enthusiasts are cut off from being able to locally enjoy the outdoors.  The greater the voice, the better chance we have to reason with CMP and the MDOC to assist us in re-opening, or properly diverting these trails.  We also appreciate the opportunity that the private land owners provide us to use their land during the winter, thank you!  Please print a membership online, or inquire at the Cumberland Town Office when you register your sled.  Trail maps, trail reports, calendar information and a contact us page, are all available online.
