Solid Waste and Recycling Program
Cumberland provides weekly, curbside collection of household solid waste and recyclables and provides curbside collection of large household items twice annually (spring and fall). Cumberland has an active Recycling Committee that is continually working to educate and encourage the community to recycle. Recycling benefits the community not only because it is good for the environment, but also because it saves tax dollars that would otherwise be used for disposal of materials.
We do accept old cell phones, laptops with power cords, palm pilots (PDA’s) with power cords, cell phones and old ink/laser jet ink cartridges here at the Town Hall for recycling. There is a box in the front entryway where you may drop them off for pick-up by Mrs. Alexander’s 5th Grade Class in North Yarmouth.
We are offering the opportunity for residents of Cumberland to be able to recycle your old CD’s and DVD’s. A box is now available at the Prince Memorial Library for your convenience.
We are often asked about items which are not recyclable curbside and often refer residents to outside resources such as Riverside Recycling in Portland. For more information about items accepted by Riverside Recycling and a copy of their fee schedule, please click this link: Riverside Recycling
